Residential Fire Sprinkler Maintenance
Your fire
protection system will require regularly scheduled intervals for testing,
maintenance, inspection and sometimes certifications. Maintenance of the fire
sprinkler system will consist of testing, inspecting, repairing and fixing any
components of the fire protection system that do not function properly. If you
are unfamiliar with the fire protection system installed in your home contact a
fire safety engineer or licensed fire protection contractor to explain what
maintenance is required on the fire protection system. The financial benefit is also rewarding by maintaining your fire sprinkler system. This allows you to schedule the necessary repairs at a convenient time and reveal any issues with your fire protection system long before it may become a major expense to repair.
The National Fire Protection Association has created a standard for maintenance of the residential fire sprinkler system referred to as NFPA 13D. The scope reads, “1.1* Scope. 1.1.1 This standard shall cover the design, installation, and maintenance of automatic sprinkler systems for protection against the fire hazards in one- and two-family dwellings and manufactured homes. 1.1.2 This standard assumes that the sprinkler system is designed to protect against a fire originating from a single ignition location.” (Reference)
